Morocco's OMPIC and China's CNIPA MoU signing in Geneva

Geneva, July 16th, 2025

On July 9, 2025, Morocco’s Office of Industrial and Commercial Property (OMPIC) and China’s National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Geneva to accelerate patent processing.

The Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) agreement enables mutual recognition of patentability rulings, speeding up validation for applicants filing in both nations. Signed by OMPIC’s Abdelaziz Babqiqi and CNIPA’s Shen Changyu, the MoU aligns with Morocco’s 3,500 annual patent filings and China’s 1.6 million in 2024, reducing delays for innovators.

This supports Morocco’s strategy to streamline intellectual property processes, attracting Chinese firms in electronics and automotive sectors. By expediting patent approvals, the agreement accelerates innovation for businesses, fostering Morocco-China trade.
