On October 14, 2025, in Rabat, Morocco’s Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch received a delegation from Anhui province, led by Vice-Governor Sun Yong, to explore economic partnership. The meeting focused on new technologies, renewables, and electric vehicles, building on Morocco’s strategic gateway role with free-trade agreements reaching 2 billion consumers.
Sun Yong described Morocco as a “priority market” for Anhui companies expanding overseas, highlighting the 2030 World Cup as a catalyst. Anhui targets e-mobility and green hydrogen, aligning with Morocco’s 52% renewable energy goal by 2030 and 12.5 GW of new renewables planned by 2030. Morocco’s automotive sector, exporting 559,645 vehicles in 2024, 80% to Europe, offers entry for Anhui firms. The delegation discussed joint ventures in infrastructure and agriculture, with Tanger Med handling 10.24 million containers in 2024.
This exchange, following Akhannouch’s September 2024 Hefei visit, reinforces Morocco-China ties, with bilateral trade reaching $9.04 billion in 2024.
