Shandong University x Chouaib Doukkali University: Establishment of lab to boost green energy

Morocco and China have launched a joint laboratory in El Jadida to enhance green energy and advanced materials. The lab was jointly established by State Grid Xinjiang Electric Power Company, Xi'an University of Technology, Shandong University and Chouaib Doukkali University in Morocco.

This lab will focus on the efficient utilization of renewable energy sources, as well as the research and development of advanced technologies including new intelligent sensing techniques and energy storage science. The research team will implement comprehensive monitoring, fault prediction, and energy consumption management of new energy and energy storage systems through the use of fiber optic sensors, intelligent analysis and monitoring algorithms.

Despite Morocco’s potential, renewable energy still forms a small part of its energy mix, slowed by infrastructure and technology challenges. The lab will help address these gaps, offering research and training for Moroccan and African talent.
