On January 7, 2026, Morocco’s OCP Group awarded a strategic EPC contract to China’s Sinoma Construction Co., Ltd. (subsidiary of CNBM Group) for the construction of a new 3 million ton/year phosphoric acid production line at Jorf Lasfar. The contract includes engineering, procurement, and construction, with a 36-month execution timeline. The project is part of OCP’s strategy to increase phosphoric acid capacity to 10 million tons annually by 2030, supporting downstream fertilizer production and global food security.
Sinoma Construction is a CNBM Group subsidiary, specializes in EPC for cement, mining, and chemical plants. It has executed 300+ projects in 80 countries, with 2024 revenue of RMB 12.8 billion ($1.8 billion). Sinoma has a long history in Morocco, having previously built the Safi cement plant and other industrial facilities.
OCP Group is the world’s largest phosphate producer, controlling 70% of global reserves, generated MAD 114.6 billion ($11.8 billion) in revenue in 2024 (up 5% y/y) and employs 23,000 people. OCP operates 5 mining sites, 4 chemical platforms (including Jorf Lasfar, the largest), and exports to over 100 countries.
Phosphate plays a key role in global food security, as 90% of mined phosphate is used in fertilizers, supporting crop yields for 9 billion people.
