Kenitra, August 5th, 2025
On August 4, 2025, China’s Kuntai Group, led by Chairman Zhang Hong, announced a $13.7 million (100 million RMB) investment for a factory in Kenitra’s Atlantic Free Zone, Morocco, through its subsidiary Kuntai Hongjing Co Ltd.
The facility will produce 1 million square meters of automotive carpets annually for BYD, Tesla, and BMW, integrating R&D, production, and sales. This new project, without a prior MoU, creates 200 high-skill jobs, with production starting in 2026. Morocco’s automotive sector, employing 220,000 and accounting for 27% of industrial exports, exported 600,872 vehicles in 2024, 80% to Europe, as noted by Minister Ryad Mezzour. Kenitra hosts 25% of these jobs.
Kuntai’s investment, following its 2024 Mexico plant, leverages Morocco’s EU and U.S. free-trade agreements to target Europe’s $24 billion automotive carpet market, driving trade and innovation.
