Sino-Moroccan joint venture COBCO, formed by Al Mada (49.97%) and CNGR Advanced Materials (50.03%), launched a $2B lithium-ion battery materials plant in Jorf Lasfar on June 25, 2025.
The 200-hectare facility produces 40,000 tons of nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) precursor cathodes annually, targeting 70 GWh to power 1M electric vehicles by 2027, with plans for 60,000 tons of lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) cathodes and 30,000 tons of black mass recycling.
Morocco’s 70% share of global phosphate reserves and 56 free-trade agreements, including with the EU and US, bolster its EV hub status.
CNGR’s expertise, supplying 30% of global NMC precursors, positions Morocco as a key player in China’s battery supply chain.
