Hong Kong-based Jungnong Group, a subsidiary of China’s Agricultural Development Group, launched a $22 million (MAD 220 million) smart farming project in Morocco in June 2025, partnering with the Ministry of Agriculture.
The initiative establishes an advanced agricultural hub using drip irrigation, saline soil rehabilitation, and digital tools like soil nutrition platforms to cultivate high-value crops such as olives, pomegranates, almonds, and figs. It aims to reduce water usage by 50% and increase yields by 20% per hectare, creating over 300 jobs.
Morocco’s 70% share of global phosphate reserves supports fertilizer production for sustainable farming. The project positions Morocco as a North African agro-tech leader, with Jungnong eyeing expansion to Algeria and Tunisia.
This initiative strengthens Morocco’s role in global sustainable agriculture markets.
