Morocco’s National Railways Office (ONCF) has awarded the infrastructure works on the Sidi Ichou-Fès railway axis to a consortium comprising China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), China Railway Signal & Communication (CRSC), and Moroccan engineering firm ABC Intel.
The contract, valued at 960 million dirhams ($96 million), covers civil engineering, signaling, and electrification for the 200 km line linking Sidi Ichou (near Kenitra) to Fès. This project forms part of the broader Kenitra-Marrakech high-speed line (LGV) extension, aimed at reducing travel times and boosting connectivity ahead of the 2030 World Cup co-hosted by Morocco, Spain, and Portugal.
The award followed intense competition between Chinese and European firms, with the Chinese consortium prevailing on cost and technical merit. CRBC and CRSC have secured multiple Moroccan rail contracts, including civil works on the Kenitra-Marrakech LGV (China Railway No.4 Engineering Group, Shandong Hi-Speed, China Overseas Engineering Corp).
The line, part of ONCF’s $14.3 billion high-speed rail plan, will connect Kenitra to Marrakech, with completion targeted for 2029.
